HOW TO TRANSITION YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE TO SPRING: BEST TIPS FROM THE RED CARPET

HOW TO TRANSITION YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE TO SPRING: BEST TIPS FROM THE RED CARPET

After months of windy days, unexpected snowfall and broken umbrellas, your skin can finally emerge from a cocoon of heavy moisturizer and intensive treatment.

Keep reading to find out some advice for each skin care step and to collect new ideas to refresh your winter beauty routine directly from the red carpet.

  1. Cleanser

Cleaning your face is the very first step in all season routine. Using a cleanser suitable for your skin type is the best choice to make sure to remove dirt, oil, pollution and make up taking care of your skin.

But this is not enough, Darling! As we swap seasons, it’s important to also consider swapping your cleanser. With rising temperatures comes oilier, more-breakout-prone skin, so ditch winter’s hydrating cleanser for one that’s more balancing.

Gel and foaming cleanser are the best in springtime, because they decrease oil production and encourage cell turnover. Whether you’re single cleansing, double cleansing or even triple cleansing, it’s important to find a product that removes makeup, whilst balancing your skin, without stripping it.

Besides the type of cleanser, there’s also active ingredients to consider. If your skin is dry, you’d probably benefit from some extra hyaluronic acid or ceramides. If you have acne-prone skin and suffer from regular breakouts, keep an eye out for salicylic acid. For a deep-clean, clay cleanser can help to draw out and mop up excess sebum.

Every person has different beauty needs. As with all things, what works for one person might not work for you, your skin type and your skincare routine. So it can take some trial and error to find the face cleanser your skin jams with. In case you have sensitive skin, you can follow the new insipring Catwomen tips. Yes, we are talking about Zoe Kravitz. She is really careful about what she uses on her skin, and she prefers gentle and organic cleanser because they feel lighter on the skin.

For sensitive skin, you’d better choose a gentle cleanser that leaves your skin soft and smooth without stripping it. In case you have oily skin such as Zoey Deutch, a gel or foaming cleanser with a boost of salicylic acid or clay is a must.

“The morning cleanse is really, really important to set your face for the whole entire day”. JLO is very clear when it comes to cleansers. For her it’s the most important step also in every morning routine, and it definitely influences her mood.

  1. Exfoliating

The second step in the S routine is exfoliation. This step helps to keep your skin silky, soft and smooth by buffing away and removing dead skin cells.

The first step on the path to glowing skin starts with exfoliating away the lingering layer of winter.

How often should you exfoliate? Well, darling, it depends on the season and on your skin type. Hot season might need more session of exfoliation per week than the cold one.

For oily skin it is necessary at least two/three time per week. For sensitive and dry skin, on the other hand, it is better to exfoliate once a week in spring/summer and biweekly in winter months.

This instruction doesn’t meet Jennifer Lawrence opinion. The star of Hunger Games says that she understood the importance of exfoliation only some years ago. She stated “I exfoliate every night, and it really doesn’t matter what I use. You can kind of use anything grainy”. Isn’t that upsetting? Perhaps skincare is even more subjective than we think.

Lady Gaga is another big fan of exfoliation: she not only exfoliates her face skin but she also underlines the importance of lips exfoliation at least once a week. “Before every red carpet event a little lip treatment is mandatory” she stated.

3. Moisturize, moisturize and moisturize again.

After exfoliating, the next tip that will be your spring mantra is hydration. Yes dear, you read it right! It’s time to switch out the heavier, thicker products for light layers of hydration

To start, you cannot miss a hyaluronic acid serum. It doesn’t matter which one, but remember to be consistent to get a plumped and hydrated effect. Want another crazy tip? Apply a moisturizing face mask before starting your daily skincare routine (after cleansing, of course). Lady Gaga is totally obsessed with this trend. Hailey Rhode Bieber shows in her YouTube channel how easy it is to include a moisturizing mask in her morning routine. “I wouldn’t do a mask every single day obviously, but when I want a little bit of an extra a glow I go for a nice calming hydrating mask”. So let’s get obsessed with these spring trend this March.

4. Add vitamin C

Vitamin C is an impressive skincare ingredient that is shown to be effective in many areas:

  • Vitamin C is full of antioxidants that help your skin in spring transition. Antioxidants help prevent sun damage, and make your skin tone brighter and even. It also controls free radical that can cause dark spot and hyperpigmentation.
  • Promotes collagen production: Vitamin C also plays an important role in collagen synthesis.
  • Lightens dark spots: Vitamin C is also helpful in lightening unwanted dark spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

It can be included in your skincare routine in many different ways. You can use a cleanser enriched with Vitamin C like Lucy Hale does, or you can use a serum like Lady Gaga and many other skincare addicted celeb do.

5. Update your SPF

Last but not least comes SPF. In spring, like any other season, is mandatory to use an SPF daily. There are a lot of alternative ways to include SPF in your daily skin care, as the market in now full of wonderful alternatives: serum, cream, stick and spray. You are spoilt for choice! No excuses at all.

In winter a medium protection is enough but in spring the going gets tough. Every celeb underlines the importance of using SPF even in cloudy days, no matter the season.

Lucy Hale use it as a primer, after skin care in the morning and before make up: “I just put like a penny size all over your face. It’s so great, like you can’t see it at all, and it’s matte, so it doesn’t get all goopy. It can act sort of like a primer”.

But what about the right SPF range? JLO answer this question by saying that when spring blooms she uses a high protection that doesn’t go below SPF 30. “It is probably one of the biggest things that I did from a very young age that helped me to preserve my skin.” Jen explains.

SPF is literally a must have in your spring days, because “even when you’re fighting – or being – crime in the middle of the night, one must never forget SPF”. Zoe Kravitz’s said that, and who are we not to listen to her?
